More than 10,000 people from 104 countries applied to volunteer at COP31.

More than 10,000 applications from 104 countries have been received for the 5,000 volunteer positions at the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will be hosted by Türkiye in Antalya from November 9 to 20.

According to information obtained by an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the 5,000 volunteers to be selected under the “COP31 Türkiye Volunteering Program” will participate in activities aimed at raising environmental and climate awareness—not only at the summit venue but also across Antalya and at various locations throughout Türkiye.
The program aims to form a 5,000-person volunteer network, with 1,500 of the volunteers being international.
The program, implemented in line with the approach of COP31 President and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum—which places young people at the heart of the conference—aims to strengthen the active participation of youth in COP31.

To date, more than 10,000 people from 104 countries have applied to the program. Applications will continue until August.

Following the completion of the application process, candidates will undergo a comprehensive evaluation in accordance with the specified criteria.

Volunteers selected through the evaluation process will participate in an intensive training program prior to COP31. Those who successfully complete the training will serve during the summit in roles determined by their competencies, areas of interest, foreign language proficiency, and the program’s requirements.

Volunteers will contribute to the organization of COP31 in various operational areas, including welcoming and guiding visitors, event support, on-site coordination, communication with delegations, and environmental and climate awareness activities.

For COP31 volunteers, an “Employment, Internship, and Career Guidance Program” will also be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and under the coordination of the program’s executive agency.

The program aims to connect young people who gain knowledge and experience in environment, climate change, and sustainability, and who demonstrate high performance during the volunteering process, with the business world.

Thus, the goal is to contribute to transforming the experience gained by young people at COP31 into internship and employment opportunities, in addition to their long-term professional development.
